The medical and nursing core processes of a hospital are supported by numerous logistics processes that place high demands on quality, individualization, real-time responsiveness and cost efficiency. Nevertheless, one often encounters wastage of important resources such as material, space or work. Unfortunately, lean logistics processes are rather rare. In order to align logistics processes with the core processes, this book focuses on the further development of innovative logistics systems in hospitals. There is potential here that can be leveraged through the digitization of logistics processes.

Two reference models for "material logistics" and "bed logistics" are presented in detail, which show a concept for digitally supported, low-waste logistics processes in clinics. In addition, methods for using the reference models are explained. These findings come from an applied research project with two hospitals of the maximum care level in southern Germany.
