It is already part of our culture to say that in Brazil we have no memory... And as for the Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy, how many know the history of its foundation? What motivated its existence? What were the first steps taken in this direction? How many were involved in its creation? Knowing and active participant in these events, I decided to narrate the story of the creation and foundation of our SOBED. I reported my plans to two former presidents, Ramiro Mascarenhas and the late João Carlos Andreolli, who immediately supported my idea. However, despite my efforts to find the desired documentation among my archives, it was not possible for me to materialize our dream during his tenures. you, sobedianos, the history of the realization of the ideals of all of us - the foundation of an entity that was based on some basic principles, among which, we highlight:- Representing endoscopists with other medical societies, our sister societies, both in Brazil and abroad .- Taking care of the implementation of this fascinating specialty that we embrace, stimulating the development of training centers for the formation of qualified and respected professionals. - Promoting and disseminating the updating of knowledge through congresses, courses and “live” demonstrations. - Assessing the qualification of new specialists through competitions to obtain the title of specialist in digestive endoscopy. - Disseminate the programs involving the specialty for the benefit of the population, obeying the ethical principles that guide medicine.
