UCSF Musculoskeletal MR Imaging

UCSF Musculoskeletal MR Imaging

UCSF School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging

UCSF Musculoskeletal MR Imaging activity presents a comprehensive state-of-the-art update on different aspects of musculoskeletal MRI. Evaluation of cartilage lesions, including the newest available sequences is highlighted. A comprehensive review of bone and soft-tissue tumors is given with a differential diagnosis for these indications. Several presentations include optimized protocols for 1.5T and 3T MR imaging units plus pertinent anatomy and pathology are reviewed for each joint. Practical information is directed to bone marrow, muscle and tendon disorders, and nerve entrapment.

Description

This activity is geared towards diagnostic radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and MRI technologists with some basic or intermediate knowledge of musculoskeletal MRI who want to increase their knowledge to a more advanced level.

Learning Objectives

After viewing this activity, participants will demonstrate the ability to:
  1. Relate MR image findings of the shoulder and knee to the perspective of the Orthopedic Surgeon
  2. Develop optimized protocols for imaging of the musculoskeletal system, including protocols used to suppress metal hardware in patients with joint replacements
  3. Identify abnormalities of the joints, muscles, bone marrow and cartilage on MRI and their clinical significance
  4. Recognize common bone tumors with a pertinent differential diagnosis
  5. Understand the MRI anatomy of the elbow, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle
  6. Recommend imaging-guided diagnostic and therapeutic joint injections
  7. Understand the indications, techniques and caveats of bone biopsies and radiofrequency ablation
